Calculation logicFrequently asked questions
How do I compare EV vs gas per mile?
EV cost per mile equals electricity rate divided by efficiency in miles per kWh. Gas equals pump price divided by mpg.
What efficiency should I assume?
EVs average 3 to 4 miles per kWh; gas cars 25 to 30 mpg. Use EPA ratings for your models.
Does public charging change the math?
Fast charging at 40 to 60 cents per kWh can match gas cost. Home charging decides the savings.
What about maintenance?
EVs skip oil and brake wear, saving roughly half a cent to a cent per mile on top of fuel.
